Do you want your buyers to find you in AI search engines?

AI search optimization services

Your buyers are asking ChatGPT, Gemini, and Google's AI Overviews who to work with. My AI visibility program increases your chances of appearing in those AI answers. I’ll take the time to understand your business, so that everything I write has the expertise and insight that your buyers are looking for.

I run the AI visibility program for you, from small changes and rewrites through to new landing pages and articles. I'll also re-measure how you show up in AI answers, so we can see what's working and what to focus on next.

Hi! I'm Paul Maplesden, and I’ve been a B2B content strategist and writer for more than ten years. I work with highly complex businesses across finance, compliance, manufacturing, and more, including AI search audits for a global logistics company. Get in touch and I’ll let you know how I can help you.

  • From $6,000A month, re-measures included
  • 6 monthsMinimum commitment, then month to month
  • 3 monthsBetween re-measures, each with an updated plan
  • Audit firstStarts after your AI search audit

What the AI visibility program gives you

Here’s what you’ll get from your AI visibility program.

  • Every word written by me

I learn about your business and the products and services you sell. Then I write every page and article myself and you review each one before it goes live.

  • Changes that are ready to go

I explain the issue and the fix for every change, together with anything I need from you. I'll email you every two weeks so that you know what's complete and what's next.

  • Content that helps you get seen

I find the facts and expertise that only your business has. I work with your experts and data and include those insights where the AI engines can find them.

  • Progress that we review together

I re-measure how you're showing up in AI answers every three months, and we'll meet to go through the results and agree what's next.

Some work does stay with your team. I'll tell you which third-party lists and directories can help you appear in AI search results, and your team or PR agency can do the outreach. If I find any technical problems, I'll tell you what needs to change so your developer can fix them. All of your content arrives ready to publish, so your team can push it live on your CMS.

What is AI search optimization?

AI search optimization, also known as AI visibility optimization, increases the chances that AI engines like ChatGPT or Gemini will name your company in their answers. It strengthens the areas that those engines rely on, including whether:

  • They can find and read your pages.

  • Your pages answer questions clearly.

  • You share facts and figures on your products and services.

  • Other trusted sites mention you.

In practice, AI search optimization is content marketing that's built for how your buyers are searching.

I’ve designed my AI visibility program for complex B2B companies like yours, where your real expertise is with the specialists who don’t have time to write. Your marketing team probably doesn't have the time either. Research shows that 54% of marketing leaders don’t have enough resources, so you can trust me to do the work myself.

Everything starts with your AI search audit

We need to know how your website is doing in AI search right now so that I can build the right visibility program for you. That's why every program starts with an AI baseline and action plan. It's a fixed-price AI search audit that shows where you and your competitors are currently appearing in AI answers, together with a content strategy and action plan.

The audit costs $2,200 and takes 3 weeks from start to finish.

It gives the program two things it can't work without:

  • A baseline of where you are now, so we can understand what needs changing.

  • A content strategy and a prioritized action plan, so that the work starts where it will make the most difference.

Every re-measure after the initial baseline is included in the program at no extra charge, so we can track progress and update the strategy.

Your first step is a free discovery call where we can talk about the AI search audit. I'll find out about your business and let you know how I can help.

Your AI content strategy

Your AI content strategy groups the questions your buyers ask into specific topics. It then explains what to do about each topic, based on how the AI engines are currently answering those questions. The content strategy guides all of the work that I do. I update your content strategy after each re-measure, so that your budget gets spent where it matters most.

Recommendation What it means What to do
Defend An AI engine already names you I protect what's working and improve the page to help other AI engines name you as well
Win now No company has a firm hold on the topic yet, so better pages can win it I improve your pages or write new ones to help you get seen
Build You don't have a page that answers the topic I write the page that's missing
Long game Large firms, marketplaces, lists, or directories win the answers I tell you which lists and sites matter so that your team or PR agency can approach them
Leave AI engines answer with advice and don't name any companies I watch the questions to see if anything changes

I have an example AI baseline and action plan report that you can download and read. In that report, the content strategy covers 19 topics. Of those, the AI engines already named the business on 8 topics, and another 5 weren't worth any work at all, so the work and budget could go where they were needed most.

That's important because choosing where to put your marketing dollars is partly based on who you're competing against. Getting that overview helps you focus your budget where it really matters.

Your AI action plan

Your AI action plan turns the content strategy into a list of changes. I prioritize the changes based on how many questions an action can affect, how winnable the topic is, and what you want to get found for. Then, I work through the list in order.

Examples of actions on your plan

Here's an example of the actions from the sample report covering the visibility program for the first three months, starting with this one:

Show a starting price on every service and subject page

  • Why it matters: none of the business's 19 pages showed a price, while 40% of the competitor pages that I scored did.
  • What needs to happen: decide on the pricing figure and add it in a sentence near the opening of each page.
  • The pages it covers: 15 service and subject pages, each listed by URL.
  • How much effort is needed: low effort.
  • The impact of the change: high, as it touches all of the buyer questions.
  • Done when: every listed page shows a price figure in its main text.

Some of the other actions in the plan include:

  1. Adding a "last reviewed" date to 19 pages.
  2. Adding turnaround times, credentials, and independent sources to 14 pages.
  3. Naming the subjects and documents that buyers ask about on 7 pages.
  4. Reworking the homepage to answer buyers' general questions.
  5. Writing a guide to hiring an editor.

I also recommended that the client gets added to the lists and directories that get cited in AI answers.

Your report and plan stays private to you. This example comes from a report that I ran on freelance-editing.com, a small business that I know well, and is used with the owner’s permission. Your own action plan will look different, because it’s built around your buyers’ questions. What does stay the same is the shape: a ranked list with a reason and a finish line for every action.

“Paul’s AI work has helped us understand how our website appears in both organic and AI search. It’s really foundational to our website improvement work, which Paul also led.”

How we’ll work together

Here’s the process from start to finish.

  1. Start with your AI search audit. We'll begin with a free discovery call and then I'll run your audit. We'll walk through the findings and discuss whether the visibility program is right for you.
  2. Sign up and complete your intake. You'll sign an agreement for the program, and I'll invoice at the start of each month. I'll fill in a short intake form based on what I already know, and you'll fill in any gaps and approve it.
  3. Agree work for your first three months. Before our kickoff call, I'll send you the work I recommend from your action plan. We'll go through your goals so you can confirm or change the plan.
  4. I do the work. I work through your action plan in order. Before I write each page or article, I'll send you a short brief to gather the right information.
  5. You review and publish. We'll go through up to two rounds of revisions to get the work publication ready, then your team can push it live on your CMS.
  6. You hear from me every two weeks. I'll email you with what I've completed, what I'll do next, and anything I need from you.
  7. We review and plan what's next. Before each quarterly business review, I'll re-measure how you're doing and update your content strategy and action plan. Then we'll meet for an hour to go through the results and agree what comes next.

If you'd like help putting the content strategy and action plan into practice, that's what my AI visibility program is for.

How you'll know your AI search optimization is working

We'll judge progress across three stages.

  1. The work is completed and live on your website. I'll keep you updated with a running count of what's been sent to your team and published.

  2. We look for early signs of improvement in the AI answers. At each re-measure, I'll check for movement on the questions that the work touched. If you give me access to Google Search Console, I’ll check whether the changed pages are improving.

  3. A real change. You appear more often on buyer questions and we see that improvement over two or more re-measures.

AI answers can move by themselves, so I'll compare the questions that the work touched with the ones that it didn't. I count improvements when the questions the work touched move more than the rest, and we see those improvements across multiple re-measures.

Challenging your thinking

Research tells us that 85% of senior marketing leaders say that having their assumptions challenged is valuable, but only 37% say that their agencies actually do that. I'll bring at least one assumption we might have made to each review, to see if the evidence questions it. I'll also explore an opportunity that you might have beyond the plan itself. That might be a competitor the AI engines keep recommending that you hadn't been tracking, or a topic that matters less to your buyers than we thought.

Options for improving your visibility in AI search

You have several options to enhance how your business appears in AI answers:

  • Working from an AI monitoring tool.

  • Hiring an agency.

  • Working with an AI search advisor.

  • Using my AI visibility program.

Here's how they compare.

Your team and a monitoring tool An agency retainer An AI search advisor My AI visibility program
Who does the work Your team, using data from the tool An agency team, usually split across specialists Your team, following the advisor's advice I do it myself
Where the work comes from The tool's prompts and your team's judgment A roadmap or monthly sprints An audit and a roadmap A ranked plan from your AI search audit
What's written for you Nothing Content, often with outreach and technical work Usually nothing; the writing stays with you Pages, articles, and rewrites that are ready to publish
How progress is measured A daily or monthly visibility score Monthly dashboards and visibility scores Prompt tracking or share of voice Your buyer questions every three months, comparing the questions the work touched with the ones it didn't
Where it's strong The lowest cost, with frequent data and full control for your team One team can cover content, outreach, PR, and technical work Senior advice from an experienced consultant A senior strategist working from an evidence-based plan
What to weigh Your team still has to find the time to act on the data, and a single score can move when nothing you did has changed A higher cost, and the work is shared across several people Your team still has to find the time to do the writing Outreach and technical fixes stay with your team, and progress is checked at each re-measure, so there's no daily score
What it costs A monthly subscription A monthly retainer A project fee or a retainer From $6,000 a month

An example AI baseline and action plan report

Want to see what a report looks like? Here's a full example. I ran this report on freelance-editing.com. It's a small, professional services business that I know well. The report runs to more than 60 pages and covers 40 buyer questions. It uses the exact approach that I'll use for your report.

Frequently asked questions

Is an AI search audit the same as GEO or AEO?

No, they're different. My audit measures where you stand right now and the content strategy and action plan explain what to change. Some people describe the work that follows as generative engine optimization (GEO), answer engine optimization (AEO), or AI SEO. I do offer similar services as part of my AI visibility program, but the audit is a necessary and preliminary piece of work.

How is an AI audit different from an SEO audit?

An SEO audit analyzes how well your site ranks on Google and other search engines. My audit explores whether AI engines name your business when buyers ask about what you sell. I'll also tell you who they name instead and why. SEO and AI audits overlap, because ranking well for organic search can raise your chances of appearing in AI answers, but they are different disciplines.

What is an AI visibility score?

An AI visibility score is a number that AI monitoring tools show to summarize how often you're mentioned in AI engines. My report doesn't provide an overall visibility score. AI engine answers can vary from day to day, so overall visibility scores can be unpredictable. I also believe that it's more helpful to see your results and who is recommended instead for every buyer question. That's a better basis for building your content strategy and action plan.

How are pages scored?

I run several checks and scores on you and your competitors' pages. First, I'll check that the AI engines can access your pages. Next, I'll score each page based on nine factors to get a total score out of 20:

  • Facts and figures: specific information and numbers that tell a buyer exactly what they'll get, including certifications and accreditations.
  • Answers the whole question: whether you show pricing, proof you've delivered the product for others, and the process that a buyer goes through.
  • Search ranking: how well the page organically ranks on Google for the question.
  • Clear structure: how easily and directly the page answers the question.
  • Current: a visible date on the page.
  • Sources and named experts: facts that are backed by named outside sources and an author.
  • Industry lists: appearing on lists that the engines use.
  • Directories: profiles on directory and review sites.
  • Independent coverage: articles that mention you for the area of the question.

Scores show where pages are strongest and weakest and are not predictions that pages will be recommended.

Why only measure AI answers across three engines?

Because it's those engines that drive the majority of AI search to websites. In the US, ChatGPT and Gemini send around 88% of visits from all AI search engines. Google AI Overviews sit at the top of Google's organic results, so that's also an important indicator. I measure those three engines thoroughly, rather than spread the same effort thinner across more engines. (StatCounter)

Do AI answers change frequently?

Yes, even if you ask the same question twice in a short period. The sources that AI engines use only overlap by around 34% to 42% from one day to the next. It's why I ask each question three times on each engine, and only count a result if it shows up at least twice. (Schulte and others)

Do you need access to our analytics or systems?

No. Everything I measure is public information: the AI answers, Google's results, and the pages the engines use. Your analytics, lead data, and internal information remain confidential to you.

Do you use AI to create the report?

Yes. I use AI tools that I've developed to scan, measure, analyze, suggest, and draft the report and analysis. I make all of the decisions in the report and read everything before it reaches you.

What happens after the audit? Do I have to buy anything else?

No. The content strategy and action plan are yours to use however you wish, whether that's with your own team, your agency, or me. If you'd like to hire me to do the work in the action plan, then my AI visibility program puts everything into practice. I'll re-measure your visibility after each three months of work so you can see what's changed.

Will your content strategy and action plan improve our visibility in AI answers?

Not necessarily. I can't guarantee whether AI engines will name you, even after following the content strategy and action plan. Although I build them around what the research tells us could help, the AI engines have not shared what gets pages to rank. What I will give you is a clear, dated picture of how you're doing and a plan built on the evidence.

Do you want to find out where you stand in AI search?

Your next step is to book a free discovery call with me. You can tell me about your business, and I'll tell you if the AI baseline and action plan is right for you. Get in touch via my contact page and we'll kick things off.
