IoT & Device Management—Detailed Blog Samples

This is a collection of two articles on the Internet of Things and device management. I wrote for these pieces my client, SitePoint, and that are published on their blog. These writing portfolio samples are based on a theme of getting into IoT as a career and managing a specific type of IoT device manufactured by Apple. I wrote these articles for an audience that wants to:

  • Understand how they can get into IoT, especially if they’re building a startup.

  • Manage and update Apple devices in the workplace using the Jamf system.

You will find links to each published sample below.

Want to Help Build the Internet of Things? Start Here

The Internet of Things is upon us. Devices are becoming much more interconnected — businesses and consumers have access to usable information, anywhere and everywhere. The change is here, and we’re adapting. There’s lots of excitement around what the IoT can do for consumers. Wearables, health gadgets, smart homes and smart cities are getting all the media attention. They’re bright, flashy, and the public immediately relates to it.

There are certainly lots of opportunities there, but for developers, designers and forward thinkers, there’s another equally fascinating part of the IoT: the ideas, technologies, information and infrastructure behind the whole thing. It’s those innovations that helps us to develop better interconnected systems and empower all of the bright and beautiful consumer-focused IoT applications.

Employees have never been more mobile, increasing the demand for connected smart devices. Between visiting customers, working from home, being embedded with clients, or simply working on the go, connectivity and security is vital to the health and bottom line of all businesses.

Apple devices are incredibly popular in the modern workplace — their combination of beautiful aesthetics, powerful brand recognition, ease-of-use, and a rich application ecosystem makes them a natural choice. The ubiquity of these devices does come with a challenge though — how do you set up, manage, and protect your Mac and iOS devices, no matter where they are or how they’re used?
